A gay update on an old Fairy Tale...

Once upon a time, there was a young Romantic, naive and inexperienced in the ways of love and filled with hope. He longed to find the perfect man...smart, funny, creative, romantic, masculine, handsome, well hung, etc...his Prince.Upon his dating endeavors, he came across another romantic. Although this one had given up his romantic ways after being hurt once too often. This man was all the things that the Romantic was looking for, except for one thing: his looks. Now he was not all-together ugly, mind you. In fact, some people found him quite handsome. But to the Romantic, who secretly had his eyes on another beau, this new man was but a Frog. The Frog, after promising himself that he would not, fell for the Romantic, and began to dote on him. But never were his true feelings admitted, even to himself, and never were his affections returned. For  the Romantic was very attracted to the Frog in all ways except physically, and thus they remained only good friends.

Now throughout his journey, the Romantic was hurt by someone, more than one someone in fact. Again and again, his heart began to break. And each time a man pained his friend, the Frog was there to comfort him. Offering advice and knowledge and a shoulder to cry on became the duty of the Frog. It pained the Frog greatly to remain only the Romantic's friend and to see the heartache others caused him. And he promised himself that he would do all that he could to be the Romantic's friend and someday prove to him that he, the Frog, could be a better love than any the Romantic had yet encountered.

One night, the Romantic came to the Frogs door. Someone new had wounded him deeply, far more deeply than any the Frog had seen before. The Frog could see that his friend was on the breaking point and that all thoughts of romance and hope were fleeing his spirit. Tears filled the Frog's eyes as he comforted the Romantic, lamenting the loss of what had made his friend so special and mourning once again for the relationship he truly wished they had.

But in his sorrow, a wave of gratitude came over the Romantic and he wished to thank his dear friend for his many hours of comfort and aid. And upon viewing his friend's strong and steady, yet tearful face, he saw him in a new light. He had never looked into the Frog's eyes when seeking solace in his presence, and had never given further thought to his appearance after their first meeting. But something was different. He began to notice the the difference in his looks. For while the Frog had spent his nights comforting his friend, he had spent his days improving himself. Little by little he had worked to become the Romantic's "type." And while he was not there entirely, his dedication sparked something. In an act of desperation, loneliness, gratitude and realization, the Romantic kissed the Frog.

Their tears mingled as their lips touched. Their hearts raced as they embraced, and the Passion that had been burning within the Frog for so long was released. In that moment, it filled the Romantic with new hope, new romance. And in the power of his friend's Love, he was made whole once again. Startled by this new wave of emotion, the Romantic broke away from their kiss and stared at the Frog. He could not believe his eyes. For in their Passion and that act of Love, the Romantic allowed himself to fall for the Frog. And now, in the Romantic's eyes, the Frog had become...the Prince.

You have to Kiss the Frog for it to turn into a Prince...No one is Perfect until
you Love them.
A little semi-autobiographical fairy tale...a new take on an old classic. I say SEMI because only the first 3 paragraphs actually happened...the rest is just the fairy tale ending. In real life, the "lets just be friends" is actualy code for "I don't find you attractive enough to even think about you at all and you'll be doing all the work in the friendship until you realize I was just being polite and you ditch me, which is what I wanted you to do in the first place so that I don't feel like the bad guy."

Of course, Grimm's tale of the Frog Prince didn't end with a kiss. The princess throws the frog against a wall in order to kill it. After hitting the wall is when the Frog changes. It's really a commentary on a woman's view of other men as vulgar and animal like. But when she commits an act of violence, she sees that part of herself as well, and her disgust for her companion is replaced by an appreciation of what he really is.

I'm actualy debating on re-writing a bunch of classic Fairy tales with a modern gay twist to them and then illustrating them. Gives the whole Goldilocks and the Three Bears thing a whole new angle. lol.
