Necronomicon Ex-Mortis Pages by REBELComx Necronomicon Ex-Mortis Pages by REBELComx
Pages from the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis that I made for this year's Halloween season. While the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis of the Evil Dead series of movies actually has NOTHING to do with the Necronomicon of H.P. Lovecraft, I enjoy both so much I decided to combine them for this prop. The Ex-Mortis version was based more on Arabian and Middle East ideas of evil spirits and zombies (or ghouls). Lovecraft's, though written in Arabic, was more about interdimensional, extra-terrestrial gods and monster...though both deal with ghouls. In Lovecraft, ghouls are dead, or undead, humans who have de-evolved into dog-like forms - hence the human skull with a canine muzzle. The wing is from a Nightgaunt, we have a Spider of Leng, The elder sign, Cthulhu, and Lovecraft himself in a "prophetic" vision of the Necronomicon's author.

The pages are just parchment paper which i tore to fit the dimensions of the book and to look old. He brownish stains are the result of me basically using the paper as a napkin while eating chicken wings. The ink is rose scented ink my brother got me some time ago. I used a quill pen to sketch the drawings and do the little scratched English writing, and then a small brush for the larger Arabic looking lettering. Lovecraft's Necronomicon was originally in Arabic and called Al Azif until it was translated into Greek. I also accidentally spilled some of the ink all over my desk and wiped it up with a rag, which i then slapped against the pages to give it a kinda blood spatter effect.

The book itself is just a box, in the shape of a book bound in fake leather which i then put clay over and painted.

Awesome, yet one mistake in the description: Necronomicon Ex-Mortis is the Evil Dead book.
The Lovecraft book is just the Necronomicon.
And if you read the first two lines of the description, I make exactly that distinction.
Ah. I was confused by "The Ex-Mortis version was based more on Arabian and Middle East ideas of evil spirits and zombies (or ghouls). ", as I was thinking of the "mad Arab" Abdul Alhazred.
wow! ...just WOW!

this is so excellent, totally looks like the book from "evil dead".
Chtulhu will RISE... haha - very nice!
...Sweet Shub Niggurath.

Such a beautiful co-mingling of Lovecraftian imagery and the art style from Evil Dead... My hat's off to you, sir.
